  • The original iPhone SE was a budget 4-inch iPhone before being discontinued in 2018, but Apple revived the name in April 2020 with a new 4.7-inch model that looks like an iPhone 8 with internals similar to those of the iPhone 11. It features an A13 Bionic chip, 3GB RAM, and a low starting price of $399. Comes in white, black, and red, and comes with 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Mid-product Cycle

  • Apple's 24-inch iMac is an ultra-thin all-in-one desktop computer that was refreshed with a new design, M1 chips, and new color options in April 2021. Apple's larger 27-inch iMac hasn't been updated since August 2020, and there are rumors of a similar redesign for that model with an even larger display, perhaps as soon as late 2021. Apple also sells a barebones 21.5-inch model that's primarily aimed at the education market and hasn't been updated since 2017.

14" Redesign Later This Year

  • New lower-end 13-inch MacBook Pro models were introduced on November 10, 2020, bringing a new Apple M1 chip in place of Intel processor and graphics options. Higher-end models have not been updated since May 2020 and continue to be equipped with Intel's 10th-generation processors and up to 32GB of RAM. We're expecting redesigned 14" models with Apple silicon at the high end later this year, so we recommend waiting to buy until those are available.

  • At launch, the iMac Pro was the most powerful iMac, but it never received a major update following its 2017 launch and has been discontinued as of March 2021. At the time of its discontinuation, the standard 27-inch iMac offered a much better value, while the most demanding pro customers should look to the Mac Pro.

  • The original HomePod was Apple's answer to the Amazon Echo, but with more of a focus on music and sound quality. After three years on the market, Apple discontinued the original HomePod as of March 12, 2021, and will focus its efforts on the smaller and cheaper HomePod mini launched in November 2020. For more information on that device, see our HomePod mini roundup.
